The recent (early June) Merrion Parc -Dublin- street performance has shown clearly what
"the people" really think about the new EU treaty . The sorrow expressed nearby
by Prime minister Brian Cowen perhaps illustrated that this treaty is more a
"Politician Family" affair then a democratic product (compare Merkel -Sarkozy-
House of Lords - mode) .

(ratification was accepted by the House of Lords in the middle of June) .
Position in Austria
Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer ...(member of the social democratic SPO) pleading in favor of a modified form of the Lisbon-mode . . . The general
displeasure of the Irish citizens is comparable with that of the Austrians : disappointed
and irritated . . . This has to be taken seriously (by referenda) . Conservative coalition

Czech Republic

Czech Republic's Prime minister Topolánek explained the Czech Republic can only proceed
with ratification when the new treaty is not in conflict with the Czech Republic's
Constitution according to the Czech Republic Constitutional Court . . .
Germany
Chancellor Angela Merkel (like President Sarkozy of France) expressed the new treaty was
indispensable for expansion of the European Union .
(France will be chairing the Union after July 1st following Germany) .
Joschka Fischer (former minister of Foreign affairs Germany) .
Irish "NO" kills the Treaty . The only remaining possibility will be a
"spearhead" of States (willing to accept the Treaty) . The no-voters must not be a barrier for them .
In our times a "non-integrated" Europe could not compete with other emerging
main powers like e.g. China and India .
According to Fischer the European Leaders have not adequately assessed the reactions on
the new EU treaty (Ireland) and previous referenda (2005) . They should have specified the
consequences of important changes in the Treaty more clearly .

Our first imputes immediately concentrated on the Paris / Brussels EU agriculture fight (immediately after the French EU take-over) , the Sarkozy / Mendelson -British- WTO quarrel, ( concentrating on agriculture).
Other imputes concentrate on pensions which are under heavy attack throughout Europe .
"Liberalizing" health care is another hot topic .
Considering the complex situations we described on our
"MORE 02 JULY 2008" essay (=text above) the impression of a complex (potentially planetary collapse-mode) near future seems defendable .However we must also consider that a proper democracy is a stable system. This means it opposes change. Changes have to be approved at many levels and it is because of this principle that change is slowed down. But it is better to move slowly and quarreling in the right direction then to rush in error.
In the democratic process decisions have to be evaluated by many individual brains which are joined together into group brains in meetings where democratic decisions are made. Then they are often passed on to a higher level where a similar process is activated.
For a decision to be cleared by a single human brain electrical currents have to find a way through a network of 100 billion neurons, linked by 7O trillion pathways before they reach the motor stations that can execute the decision. In this maze the current seeks its way because it can only proceed through green lights : other neurons that "decide", are motivated -bio-chemically-, to "let the current pass". This you see is democracy. It is the democracy of nature itself. Natural democracy. It is the basis of evolution. It resists chance. Tests every attempt to chance. This is why the democracy of man is the way of nature, the way of a stable evolution.
But if democratic systems, democratic states, are bordered by systems, by states, that operate under a leadership which is not controlled -slowed down-
by the democratic process, democracy may be in danger. Quick decisions, at lightening speed, Blitz speed, may at times give a dangerous advantage to non democratic systems. But this generation of humans has fortunately had a chance to learn that a Blitzkrieg leads only to short term success and to mass tragedy and destruction of the total system in the end. So far Democracy has always won in the long run . . . because it is the way of nature . . . it is evolution itself . . .
Of course democracy may also be endangered by forces within democratic states themselves . . .
In both cases the world wide web is offering a unique opportunity to spread the spirit of democracy under globalization.
It can link together serious grass-root groups that, in a lawful and democratic way, whish to discuss conditions in their country, city or neighborhood on a broader, even global level. Before the international community . To find out if similar conditions are affecting other citizens close by or far apart. It is amazing how many people can suffer individually, without knowing that there are many many like themselves, without knowing it. Simply because the establishment press ignores their suffering.
ONE LOGICAL CONCLUSION HOWEVER SEEMS INEVITABLE : FOR LONG-TERM PREVENTION OF PLANETARY COLLAPSE THE ULTIMATE TRIUMPH OF A TRUE GLOBAL DEMOCRACY MUST BE THE AIM OF ALL NATIONS AND ALL STATES . . .
